Dr. Lenore E. A. Walker                             

Dr. Lenore Walker, Professor Emerita, Nova Southeastern University College of Psychology was Coordinator of the Forensic Psychology doctoral and master’s programs, Licensed Psychologist, Board Certified in Clinical and Couples & Family Psychology, American Board of Professional Psychology. Walker has been in the independent practice of psychology in Denver and Ft. Lauderdale, FL although testified in many states. She developed an empirically validated treatment program, STEP or Survivor Therapy and Empowerment Program, has been a keynote speaker and a policy consultant in the U.S. and around the world. Her research has been studying the psychological impact on trauma, especially in battered women, abused children and sexual abuse survivors. Walker introduced Battered Woman Syndrome in the courts to explain how the psychological effects from trauma impact a woman’s state of mind, first when women killed abusive partners in self-defense, then in family law cases, and then in civil matters. Her book, The Battered Woman Syndrome is in its 4th Edition, is co-author on Shapiro & Walker (2010), Forensic Practice for the Mental Health Clinician and Walker, Shapiro & Akl (2020) Introduction to Forensic Psychology, 2nd Edition. Recently she has begun writing murder mysteries with the first published: Madness to Murder.
